MISSION
Portsmouth Youth Lacrosse serves as a developmental program for youth lacrosse players. We work to build a passion and love for lacrosse which culminates with success at the High School level.
VISION
- To get every boy and girl in Portsmouth to try the sport of lacrosse
- For every PYL athlete to return the following season after having a positive experience
- Emphasize fundamentals and stickwork at all levels
- Develop goalie and faceoff players at all levels
- Commit to the development of all players through engagement and positive coaching
- For PYL teams to be a 'hard to play against' but also a 'pleasure to play against'
- To be such a strong town program that players can develop into great high school players and teammates
- Maintain a healthy partnership with the Portsmouth High School (PHS) Lacrosse programs
- Graduate many versatile athletes who are passionate, coachable, and prepared for PHS
- For Portsmouth to honor the sacred origins of the game and have a positive impact on the Portsmouth Community
GUIDING PRINCIPLES
- Development Over Results
- While we love winning in Portsmouth, our main focus is developing the athlete and the fundamental skills required to achieve results.
- Fun!
- Our coaching ethos prioritizes positivity, ensuring every player feels supported and encouraged. We believe in a game where mistakes are opportunities to learn, and where playing loose and having fun are essential components of success.
- Inclusion
- We prioritize inclusion, offering equal opportunities and low-cost, non-profit access with financial assistance.
- Family Balance
- Our season runs only 10-12 weeks a year, we encourage kids to play other sports and don’t interfere with this outside of our Spring season.
- Respect
- Respect is key. Coaches prioritize preparation and positivity; parents are expected to show respect and positive feedback for all players. Players come ready for fun, teamwork, and coach instruction. Respect extends to officials and opposition from everyone involved
